Alex Wu, 16, of Lexington, raised more than $8,000 for the Malden-based organization Housing Families and its GREAT Youth Families Program by hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire in July.
Wu hiked more than 50 miles of challenging terrain, rocky trails and muddy paths over the course of four days with a friend who is an experienced hiker.
