BrightTurn Homes provides permanent supportive housing for families and individuals who have experienced chronic or episodic homelessness and are living with long-term disabilities, trauma, behavioral health needs, or other barriers to stability. Through a Housing First, trauma-informed approach, BrightTurn Homes combines affordable housing with individualized case management, mental health support, tenancy advocacy, and connections to community resources. Serving households across Greater Boston, the program helps residents achieve long-term housing stability, improve health and wellbeing, and build the foundation to pursue their personal goals with dignity, safety, and support.
Our Services
BrightTurn Homes provides safe, affordable permanent housing for families and individuals who have experienced homelessness and need ongoing support to maintain stability. Housing options include scattered-site apartments leased from local landlords, Housing Families-owned properties, and units operated in partnership with community organizations across Greater Boston. Residents pay reduced rent that is affordable based on their income and receive long-term support designed to help them remain safely and permanently housed.
Every household in BrightTurn Homes is paired with a dedicated case manager who provides individualized, trauma-informed support tailored to each resident’s goals and needs. Case managers assist with healthcare coordination, mental health referrals, income and benefits support, tenancy skills, housing advocacy, and navigating complex systems including housing authorities and public benefits. The program’s flexible approach recognizes that success looks different for every household.
Through Housing Families’ CareCollective program, BrightTurn Homes residents can access onsite and telehealth counseling, group therapy, and behavioral health referrals in a low-barrier, supportive environment. Residents also receive connections to healthcare providers, recovery resources, and wellness supports that strengthen long-term health, stability, and independence.
BrightTurn Homes recognizes that stable housing is strengthened through connection and community. Families can access youth academic and therapeutic supports through EnrichEd, groceries and household essentials through the Community Resource Hub, and legal advocacy through the LAWS program. Community-building activities, referrals, and partnerships help residents build stronger support systems and feel connected both within their housing community and throughout Greater Boston.
BrightTurn Homes helps residents strengthen long-term financial stability through individualized asset-building and financial management support. Case managers work with clients on budgeting, benefits navigation, rent payment planning, and connecting to financial assistance resources that support housing retention and economic mobility. Through an innovative rent reporting pilot program, eligible residents can have on-time rent payments reported to credit bureaus, helping them establish or improve their credit scores over time. By building positive credit history and strengthening financial skills, clients are better positioned to pursue future housing opportunities, employment, and long-term financial wellbeing.
The Challenge
Families and individuals experiencing homelessness often face far more than the loss of housing alone. Many are navigating trauma, mental health challenges, chronic health conditions, systemic discrimination, financial instability, or recovery from substance use. In Greater Boston’s increasingly unaffordable housing market, finding and maintaining stable housing can feel impossible, especially for households with extremely low incomes or complex support needs. Without stable housing, it becomes significantly harder to maintain employment, access healthcare, support children in school, or build long-term wellbeing and community connection.

BrightTurn Homes provides long-term housing paired with flexible, individualized support services designed to help residents remain stably housed and thrive. Every household is connected with a dedicated case manager who supports goal setting, healthcare access, income growth, tenancy skills, and coordination with community providers. Residents can also access integrated services through Housing Families’ broader network, including mental health counseling, youth programming, legal services, and basic needs assistance. By combining stable housing with compassionate, person-centered support, BrightTurn Homes helps residents rebuild safety, dignity, and opportunity for the future.
Moving into somewhere permanent is a big sigh of relief for us. We have been homeless for just about three years and this has marked our seventh move. I can’t explain how good it feels to call somewhere home.
