Mayor Gary Christenson thanked seniors at 630 Salem St. who worked with the Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) RSVP Volunteer Program to organize a service project in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Day.
Seniors held fundraising drives and collected a variety of household items for formerly homeless families who were placed in affordable housing by Housing Families, Inc.
The 630 Salem St. residents also donated more than 50 cleaning buckets and shower curtains.
In all, residents of 10 senior housing sites throughout the MVES service area, including Malden, Everett, Melrose and Wakefield, gathered a variety of items and supplies to be donated.
“I thank MVES Director and Volunteer Program Manager Lauren Reid and Resident Services Coordinator Terri Fitzgerald for working with our seniors on this worthwhile project,” said Christenson. “I can’t say enough about the terrific efforts of our seniors!”
